Sorrento Savvys

The Sorrento Savvys is a firm favourite with our over 50's Centre members. A jam-packed social calendar of events and fun experiences will keep you happily on the go.

There are weekly walks, bush hikes, lunches, monthly drinks, dinners in local restaurants and even picnics.

The Savvys visit local attractions, like Heronswood, the McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery, regional galleries, Beleura House and more.

A quarterly program designed by the members will keep you busy updating your calendar so you don’t miss out on any of the upcoming events.

Individual Savvys can take responsibility for planned events and everyone is encouraged to bring new ideas to the group. It’s a sharing and caring environment.

If you want to become a Sorrento Savvy, call Reception on 5984 3360. The cost is just $10 per

year, in addition to the $15 Annual registration fee.

As a Savvy Member, you’ll receive a quarterly e-newsletter to advise you about upcoming activities.

Chatty Cafe Scheme

A "Have a Chat" table is where customers can sit if they are happy to chat with other customers.

Who we are?

Chatty Cafe aims to help people of all ages and  backgrounds to stay socially connected to their community by chatting.

To enable this we want community and commercial hospitality venues across Australia to designate a "Have a Chat" table which is where people can sit if they are happy to talk to others.

The more places that get involved, the more it will become the norm to walk into a cafe, restaurant, pub, library, club, community centre, neighbourhood house, mall etc. and chose to sit at a "Have a Chat" table.

Who is it for ?

"Have a Chat" tables welcome everyone.

Who can join in? Anyone.... people on their own, in a couple, with a friend,
carers, parents with babies and kids, grandparents, people with disabilities and
of all ages and choices including  the people that may be socially isolated or
lonely.
 Everyone is Welcome!

When: Friday mornings

Time: 10 am to 12 noon

Where: Sorrento Community Centre

Memoir Writing Group

The Memoir Group is for people interested in writing.

We will meet once a week for one to two hours. Memoirs can be personal history or history of other family members or just memories of amusing  or life changing incidents. They can can be written as prose or poetry. In the initial sessions I will spend time explaining how to get started.

Each session will follow a similar structure. The first half will be devoted to some instruction followed by writing, either a subject that someone has suggested, or a subject of personal choice. During the second half we will read and discuss each other’s attempts. Members will be encouraged to write in between sessions and then bring it with them for discussion.

Materials needed are pen and exercise book or computer or both.
There is no fee but I would suggest a session fee of $5.00 as a contribution to the community centre.
